It’s 2021. Okay, maybe not yet, but nearly. As I write this, it’s 11:05pm EST, and I’m waiting for that clock to hit midnight. Perhaps so I can go to bed, but that’s beside the point.

It’s been quite the year, say the least. 2020 has taken a lot out of all of us. From the fires in Australia, to the everlasting COVID-19, to Black Lives Matter and more…it’s been A YEAR. In fact, I just Googled ‘2020 events’ and here’s the first article that currently comes up: NY Post 2020 Events. You can go ahead and relive it here, because quite frankly, I sure don’t feel like it.

They do say that the year end is time for reflection though, and I suppose I agree with that. You know, I’m still grateful. I’m sorry for all of those who lost loved ones this year, lost jobs, lost their way, and overall, lost. I’m sure there was lots of it. In my shoes, I was lucky enough to keep my job amidst it all. For me, that meant my company gave up our downtown W. Georgia St. beautiful office, to switch to working from home. And what a switch that was. My roommate and I both had to adjust to this as our new norm. This gave us an opportunity to get to know each other better though, and I’m grateful for that. I can’t imagine living alone during these times.

This pandemic opened up the eyes of many though — to think about what’s important. Did we value each other enough? Did we take the little things for granted — like a simple hug or high five, for example? Did we really take in the places we travelled to, and their cultures, or did we treat it as a simple getaway? And does all of all work really need to be done in a boxed in office? It’s a damn wake up call, in my opinion. For all of the bad the pandemic has brought, we need to also think about some of the good. I’ll always strive to find the positive. Maybe I was just raised that way, or prefer to think that there’s always lightness amidst the dark.

Enough of all of that. Here we are, my first official blog post going into 2021, and I’ve given no introduction. So here it is. I’m Cara, a traveller, creator, and lover of deep thoughts. I like the questions that make us think more, and I hope to dive more into those. I’ve thought about creating a blog for the past couple of years, truly. I’m excited to finally have it exist, and to share with you some insights from my travels, the creative world, and personal thoughts. In hopes that this blog will somehow open up someone’s mind, or help them to recognize that they’re not alone. I’m sure some topics I bring up may not be what everyone agrees with, and that’s just life in general. I hope for healthy discussion and open minds though.

I’m ready to finally get this ball rolling, and see what 2021 brings. My goal is to get at least one blog post out every week this year. I can’t promise it, but I’ll do my best. So, nice to meet you! I promise to do a full, better introduction in the future.

Cheers to you, reader & friend, and welcome to my blog life.
